Hero comes out of the closet
DC Comics is about to introduce a character as gay, reports Bleeding Cool.com.
The gay DC character won’t be a new character, but rather, he will be one that was assumed to be straight and is coming out of the closet.
Dan DiDio announced the outing over the weekend at London’s Kapow Comic Convention. He stated that the new Gay DC character will be “one of our most prominent gay characters.”
The company hasn’t stated yet who the gay DC character will be, but it is sure to turn the comic world in a new direction. But, this isn’t the first time that DC has touched on the idea of homosexuality. They reintroduced Batwoman as a lesbian and Voodoo as a bisexual.
All of this comes on the heels of President Obama’s recent approval of same-sex marriage.
However, the gay DC character isn’t the first to hit the pages of a comic book. Archie created the student Kevin Keller in 2010. Marvel also has plans to introduce a gay character.
Bob Wayne, vice president of sales at DC, says the introduction of a gay DC character is a part of their evolution.
But, what do you think about the placement of a gay DC character? Is it needed in comics or are the heroes just there to fight crime?
