Camaro ZL1 goes for $250,000
The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1has been resurrected for 2012, and the first Camaro ZL1 of the season has been auctioned off for a hefty $250,000.
AutoWeek reports that the 1969 Camaro ZL1 was the most elite Camaro ever produced. It boasted an all-aluminum big-block engine that was 100 pounds lighter than the Chevrolet L-88 427 engine. The ‘69 Camaro ZL1 was rated at 430 hp, but GM maintains that it was known to produce more than 500 hp.
Now this elite Camaro has been brought back by Chevrolet for 2012. “Like the original, the 2012 Camaro ZL1 introduces a performance benchmark for the street and the track,” Chevy spokesman Russ Clark said. The new model also boasts 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 580 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque.
The first ZL1 of the season was put up for auction and bought by Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick. Reportedly, his Camaro ZL1 will be the only one with a “carbon flash metallic” exterior.
