Georgetown Law: Gunman sighting “unfounded”
Georgetown Law is now safe and no longer on lockdown.
ABC 7 reports that a series of confusions led to an alleged sighting of a gunman on the campus of Georgetown Law. Reportedly, police received a call that a gunman had been spotted on Capitol Hill at about 1 p.m. Police searched the area but found no gunman.
Around the same time, police received a call about a man causing a disturbance near the Rayburn building. The man was detained.
Then, in an unrelated matter, a handgun was found near a tree on Capitol Hill.
At some point all of these events became garbled, resulting in Georgetown University alerting law students that an armed gunman had been spotted on Capitol Hill. The university was on lockdown, but at around 1:40 the lockdown was cancelled. Capitol Police said the report of a gunman on the Georgetown Law campus was “unfounded.”
