HP TouchPad tablet price drops to $99
Hewlett-Packard is discontinuing its new TouchPad tablet just a month and a half after its marketplace debut.
The information technology corporation announced over the weekend that it will no longer be producing the tablet, and prices for the 16GB TouchPad have fallen to as low as $99.99.
HP CEO Leo Apotheker told USA Today, “Our TouchPad has not been gaining enough traction in the marketplace. We have made the difficult but necessary decision to shut down the WebOS hardware operations.”
And with this difficult decision came the decision to drop the price of the TouchPad. The 16GB tablet, originally priced at $499.99, is now a steal at just $99.99. The 32GB device is now $149.99, according to Business Insider.
With prices so low, consumers in both the U.S. and Canada have been on the hunt to buy out the limited number of remaining devices. However, the Web sites of most major retailers, including Office Max, Target and Walmart, say the item is sold out. Best Buy says it will not be selling the TouchPad, but it will offer refunds for customers who bought the device within the last 60 days.
If you want to get your hands on a $99 HP TouchPad, your best bet is to check out slickdeals.net, where a Wiki Community Board is keeping track of the tablet’s availability.
However, International Business Times warns that TouchPad capabilities will be limited since the applications available to users are “few, and far in between.”
