A piece of baseball movie history was bought by an Oak Lawn couple
The Iowa farm that had a starring role in the movie, “Field of Dreams,” was bought by Oak Lawn couple Mike and Denise Stillman.
In companion with other investors, the new owners are setting out to create “All-Star Ballpark Heaven,” a baseball and softball field that will host tournaments for teams 18 and under.
Terms of the land agreement were not disclosed. The Lansing family put the farm up for sale in May 2010 for $5.4 million. The field has been in the Lansing family for 105 years. Currently, the Field of Dreams site receives around 65,000 visitors a year.
New owners have assured the public that they will keep it an afforable family attraction and Denise Stillman says: “We will keep the movie site as pristine as we can. That’s the magic of the place. We want to keep the memories of it like in the movies.”
The new complex, complete with more than 12 state of the art fields and an indoor training dome are set to be open in 2014.
