Mike McQueary is a key figure in the sexual abuse scandal
Mike McQueary will not be coaching the Penn State football team on Saturday because of concerns for his safety.
The LA Times reports that Penn State officials released a statement, saying, “Due to multiple threats made against assistant coach Mike McQueary, the university has decided it would be in the best interest of all for assistant coach McQueary not to be in attendance at Saturday’s Nebraska game.”
McQueary is a key figure in the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal. He witnessed one of the alleged acts of sexual abuse by Sandusky. McQueary says he saw Sandusky assaulting a boy in the Lasch Football Building showers. McQueary told former coach Joe Paterno about the incident, but did not report it to the police. Paterno was fired earlier this week.
Despite concerns for his safety, many Penn State team members are expressing their desire to have McQueary present.
“I want him out there. We need him out there…. He has a good heart,” cornerback Stephon Morris said. “A lot of people probably thought he could’ve done more, but he did what he could.”
