Troubled singer says she did not kidnap her son after missing person report filed
Mindy McCready has informed Access Hollywood that she and her five-year-old son are not missing.
The singer is speaking in reference to the police search for McCready and her son, Zander, who both allegedly disappeared Tuesday night in Florida after an apparent dispute between the troubled singer and the court system, People.com reports.
McCready, 36, told Access Hollywood in an e-mail Wednesday, “I am working with my lawyers to try and get all this straightened out. I did not steal my child, as it would be impossible for me to kidnap what already belongs to me! There never was any missing person report and never an Amber Alert.”
According to the Associated Press, however, the Department of Children and Families said that a missing person report was filed in Florida on Tuesday.
McCready, who doesn’t have legal custody of her son but is allowed visitations, was last seen after she picked the child from her father’s Cape Coral, Fla., house. The country star’s parents have custody of the child.
McCready has battled addiction and a series of personal issues over the years. In April 2010, the country star told Access about her time on VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab.”
“Dr. Drew [Pinsky] in giving me a diagnosis, diagnosed me as a person who has co-dependency. The new term is a ‘love-addict.’ It leads you into the wrong relationship and you go from one horrible relationship to another. Then I started drinking too much,” McCready told Access.
In December 2008, the singer was hospitalized after cutting her wrists and taking several pills.
