Country singer, six months pregnant with twins, could face jail time
Mindy McCready is due back in court today.
Arkansas police found the country singer and her five-year-old son Zander hiding in the closet of an unoccupied summer home days after the pair was reported missing.
Zander has been in Arkansas foster care since Friday night when he was taken from McCready and into custody. An Arkansas judge will confer with Florida Department of Children and Families officials Monday morning about sending the child back to Cape Coral, Fla., where he lived with McCready’s mother, Gayle Inge, who is his legal guardian.
According to ABC News, the Cleburne County sheriff said police tracked down the multi-platinum-selling recording artist at an unoccupied lake home in Heber Springs, Ark.
Authorities said her boyfriend, David Wilson, was talking to the police while McCready and her son hid in a closet. Neither Wilson nor McCready had permission to be inside the home.
Child welfare officials said Zander is safe and in good health, ABC reports.
It is uncertain whether or not the singer will face criminal charges. She was not arrested but could be charged with criminal trespassing. However, Sheriff Marty Moss told ABC News that was unlikely.
The singer has previously been arrested for drug charges and a DUI and spent time in jail for assaulting her mother. McCready taking her son in violation of a judge’s order could result in further jail time – only this time McCready is six months pregnant with twins.
The babies’ father is believed to be Wilson, according to the New York Daily News.
