Virginia Tech shooting: Gunman’s family apologizes to victim’s family
In true Hokie fashion, the campus community is reaching out to help the Virginia Tech shooting victim’s family.
The Virginia Tech site reports that a funeral will be held today (Monday) at 2 p.m. in honor of Virginia Tech Police Officer Deriek W. Crouse. The funeral service will also be broadcast via webcast.
The Virginia Tech community has created a program to raise funds and collect gifts for Crouse’s family. The program, dubbed Hokies for Crouse, is working to collect money, gifts and cards for Crouse’s family.
“It’s hard to find the words, but I think we are really showing the world that we are Hokie Nation and that we come together, especially in times of need. They deserve a Christmas miracle more than anyone,” said senior Bethany Darnley, 22.
The New York Daily News also reports that the Virginia Tech shooter’s family has made a public apology to Crouse’s family. Ross Truett Ashley’s family representative issued the following statment, saying, “The Ashley family would like to offer their condolences to the family of Officer Crouse. Officer Crouse and his family are in their prayers.”
