The Good Morning America host’s interview with the president shocks many
Robin Roberts is hand-picked by the White House to interview the president and she doesn’t disappoint.
Returning from her historic interview with President Barack Obama, the Good Morning America host reflected on the honor that had been bestowed on her, after all, it’s not every day the White House picks a specific reporter for an interview with the president.
“Boy do you know how to make a splash!” joked George Stephanopoulos as Good Morning America began Thursday.
In the biggest moment of her career, Robin Roberts was chosen by the White House to conduct the interview with the president in which he revealed his new-found support for same-sex marriage.
“I’m getting chills again. When you’re sitting in that room and you hear him say those historic words, it was not lost on anyone that was in the room.” Roberts stated.
The words Roberts spoke of came in the wake of the passage of North Carolina’s Amendment 1, which banned same-sex marriages in that state, an issue that continues to polarize our nation.
During President Obama’s interview with Robin Roberts he spoke of the issue that he once opposed, “At a certain point, I’ve just concluded that– for me personally, it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that– I think same-sex couples should be able to get married.”
Robin Roberts discussed how she was invited to interview the President by the White House. Roberts said that she “got a call saying the president wanted to talk,” without guidelines. She continued, “We had no idea he would do as far as he did.”
Of course, I imagine, the bubbly GMA host is happy he did.
