Taylor Swift and Miranda Lambert among big winners
The ACM Awards 2012 took a cue from the Grammys this year as the Academy of Country Music endeavored to show off the versatility of modern country with a fusion of music genres.
Carrie Underwood kicked off the ACM Awards 2012 with her new single Good Girl, giving the show a blast of rock ‘n’ roll at the start. Keith Urban and LL Cool J saluted the veterans together, while Toby Keith got by with a little help from Carrot Top for his performance of Red Solo Cup. Comedian/banjo player Steve Martin joined Rascal Flatts to play Banjo.
Actor Ashton Kutcher showcased his versatility, singing a George Strait song before presenting the award for female vocalist of the year. Other surprises included U2’s Bono introducing Dierks Bentley via video from Ireland and KISS presenting the vocal group of the year award.
There was even a real life love story at the ACM Awards 2012 – New Jersey couple Christina Davidson and Frank Tucci got married on stage, while Martina McBride and Train’s Pat Monahan sang McBride’s Marry Me. The quickie wedding took place behind the singers during the performance, and the bride and groom could be heard saying “I will,” before giving their first kiss as man and wife.
