Not likely
Amanda Bynes, 26, has entered a not guilty plea in Beverly Hills Superior Court Wednesday in connection with a DUI charge stemming from an April 6 incident in West Hollywood.
Amanda Bynes was not required to appear in court, and therefore, the not guilty plea was entered on her behalf by her attorney.
The April 6 incident occurred in the early morning hours when, according to police, Bynes struck a sheriff’s patrol car with her black BMW. The actress refused to take a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department report indicates that the actress was attempting to pass the sheriff’s car as it prepared to make a right turn when her BMW struck the right rear panel of the sheriff’s cruiser, causing minor damage to both vehicles.
Amanda Bynes starred in her own comedy sketch TV series The Amanda Show (1999–2002) at age 13. The actress is known for her role as a star on the Nickelodeon TV show All That. Bynes also appeared in films such as She’s the Man, What a Girl Wants and Hairspray. The actress was last featured in the 2010 film Easy A alongside Emma Stone. Bynes announced her retirement from acting in 2010 at the age of 24.
Amanda Bynes refutes the DUI charge, alleging that she does not drink alcohol. On May 27, she tweeted, “I can’t help but laugh at all of you writing fake stories about me. I was not in any hit and runs. I don’t drink so the DUI is false.”
Rick Bynes, the father of Amanda Bynes, echoed his daughter’s denial, telling People magazine after her April arrest that his daughter “didn’t have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn’t drink.”
Despite these claims, charges were officially filed on June 5, leading Amanda Bynes to once again take to Twitter to seek help from a rather unlikely source, President Obama.
“Hey @BarackObama . . . I don’t drink. Please fire the cop who arrested me. I also don’t hit and run. The end.”
Amanda Bynes is scheduled to appear before Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Elden Fox. Fox is well-known for her work trying to rehabilitate former child actress Lindsay Lohan during her appearances for DUI charges over the years.
Amanda Bynes is also charged with refusing a breathalyzer or blood-alcohol test.
It is not clear whether President Obama will offer any help to the former actress. Perhaps he is preoccupied trying to find a divorce attorney for Miley Cyrus.
