Diaspora co-founder Ilya Zhitomirskiy has died
Diaspora, the open-source Facebook alternative, has lost one of its founders. Ilya Zhitomirskiy has died at the age of 22.
PC Mag reports that Zhitomirskiy has died, but the cause and date of the Diaspora co-founder’s death have not been disclosed.
Diaspora was created by Zhitomirskiy, Maxwell Salzberg, Daniel Grippi and Raphael Sofaer at NYU. Diaspora was released in a commerical alpha last November and raised $200,000 through a Kickstarter program.
Diaspora’s creators called the site a “distributed network, where totally separate computers connect to each other directly, will let us connect without surrendering our privacy.” Diaspora is striving to be an “intrinsically more private social network.”
Diaspora recently sent out invites to a redesigned alpha version of the site.
