Oikos University in Oakland, California
Five people have been reported dead after a former student opened fire at Oikos Christian University in Oakland, Calif. This morning, reports the NY Daily News.
The suspected shooter was apprehended several miles from the campus around 10:30 a.m. The shooter is thought to have been a former nursing student at the college stated Johnna Watson, a police spokeswoman. Another four individuals were injured during the shooting.
The Oakland Police tweeted, “Possible Suspect in custody. No imminent public safety threat appears to exist in immediate area.”
Live footage of the university after the shooting showed police swarming around the campus and civilians running from one of the main buildings.
The university was founded 10 years ago by Pastor Jong Kim. “I stayed in my office,” Kim stated after hearing roughly 30 gun shots.
On Oikos’ website it states they, “provide highest standard education with Christian value and inspiration.”
