Eric Dane sues Billy Corgan over a fallen tree
Grey’s Anatomy actor Eric Dane has sued Smashing Pumpkins’ front man and neighbor, Billy Corgan, reporting a fallen tree on the rocker’s property almost killed his wife. Apparently the fallen tree smashed into the actor’s house last year which set off the sprinkler system and snapped the power lines during a storm. Rebecca Gayheart, Dane’s pregnant wife, was home alone at the time of the incident and was forced to leave the house with their 20-month-old daughter.
According to a claim Dane filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, “The home was flooded and surrounded by high voltage wires, and without the benefit of any light whatsoever.”
Dane and Gayheart are suing for undisclosed damages for nuisance, negligence and injunctive relief from Billy Corgan. Apparently Dane had warned his neighbor about the potentially dangerous eucalyptus tree on his property, but the rock star had failed to take action. Billy spoke out on the matter saying that he was indeed warned about the trees but didn’t know they were a threat until it was too late.
Corgan told TMZ “I was horrified when I learned about the tree falling during what was a massive storm, a storm with strong winds enough to uproot a 50 foot tree by its base! Thankfully no one was injured.” He also claims that “the entire legal battle is a shame…because they [Eric and Rebecca] are nice people.”
Corgan immediately called an expert to have similarly dangerous trees removed from his yard following the accident.
However, this isn’t the first time there have been disputes between neighbors in Hollywood. Dax Shepherd who lives next to Justin Bieber claimed that Bieber played his music too loud. He told the hosts of The View that “living next to the teen pop star is like living in Lebanon.”
Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley were also harassed by their neighbor for making too much noise. Heigl called the cops regarding the issue and cops decided that no crime was committed.
