GWAR guitarist found dead on tour bus
GWAR has lost a member, but the show must go on.
The Edmonton Journal reports that GWAR guitarist Cory Smoot was found dead as the band prepared to enter Canada on Thursday.
“It is with a sense of profound loss and tragedy that the members of GWAR must announce the passing of their long time guitarist and beloved friend Cory Smoot, also known to thousands of metal fans worldwide as Flattus Maximus,” GWAR frontman David Brockie wrote in a statement for metalsucks. net.
“Cory was found deceased this morning as the band prepared for a border crossing. There is no word as to the cause of death and the members of GWAR are completely shocked and devastated that this has occurred.”
GWAR is two weeks into a six-week tour of North America. Although the band is in mourning, Friday’s concert at the Edmonton Event Centre has not been canceled.
Smoot joined GWAR in 2002.
