Ceremonies around the world commemorate the terrible genocide

Holocaust Remembrance Day is being celebrated today around the globe.

In Poldand, an estimated 10,000 youth from Israel, the United States, and other countries march between Auschwitz and Birkenau in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The event, known as the March of the Living, takes place every year on Holocaust Remembrance Day. The two-mile march takes participants from Auschwitz to Birkenau, two areas in Oswiecim, Poland, where Germans operated a huge death camp during WWII.

In Jerusalem, Israelis commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day by travelling to the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial Thursday, where a ceremony called Every Person Has a Name is held.

Sirens sounded for two minutes Thursday and traffic stopped in Israel. Drivers stepped out of their vehicles to remember the 6 million Jews that were killed.

Holocaust survivors and soldiers who were there to liberate them during the final days of WWII were present at many of the Holocaust Remembrance Day ceremonies today.
