Hurricane Rina expected to make landfall on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula
Hurricane Rina has weakened to a Category 1 storm.
CNN reports that Hurricane Rina, previously a Category 2 storm, has weakened significantly, making it a Category 1 storm. Originally, Hurricane Rina was expected to reach Category 3 status before making landfall on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula near Cancun on Thursday.
As of 12:45 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Rina’s maximum sustained winds dropped to 85 mph and it was 190 miles south-southeast of Cozumel, Mexico.
So far, no tourists have been evacuated from Quintana Roo.
