Kathy Bates, 64, continues to battle breast cancer
Kathy Bates, star of Harry’s Law, is recovering after a double mastectomy. Several weeks ago, Bates was diagnosed with breast cancer and decided to undergo the surgery after much consideration. Fortunately, the actress does not have to go through radiation or chemotherapy.
Bates is no stranger to cancer, however. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003, although she kept her illness a secret until 2009. Finally in March, Bates discussed her battle with cancer and why she kept it private on Anderson Cooper’s show Anderson. Bates explained that she was advised to do so.
She stated “My doctors at the time, they had to get insurance approval and all of that so I was very quiet about it and had to go back to work right away.”
Kathy Bates remains in good spirits after her double mastectomy. “My family calls me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception. My doctors have assured me I’m going to be around for a long time. I’m looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do.”
Bates also took to Twitter after her surgery saying “Hey all, sorry for the long silence. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 months ago and I am recovering from a double mastectomy. I don’t miss my breasts as much as I miss Harry’s Law. Thanks for all the sweet tweets. Y’all kept me going.”
Kathy Bates is famously known for her role in the 1991 movie, Misery, which earned the actress an Academy Award. Bates also starred in the NBC hit, The Office.
