Paula Deen contracted to promote diabetes drug

The rumors are true. Paula Deen has confirmed that she has Type 2 diabetes.

CBS News reports that Deen told the “TODAY” crew that she was diagnosed three years ago, but didn’t want to announce her condition without being able to give advice to others with diabetes. Deen has become a paid spokeswoman for Novo Nordisk and will assist Novo’s program Diabetes in a New Light, offering tips on food preparation, stress management and working with doctors on a treatment plan.

Deen, 64, is known for her use of high-calorie, fatty ingredients in her cooking. When asked if this diet contributed to her condition, she responded, “That is part of the puzzle,” but added that genetics, lifestyle, stress and age all contribute as well.

Deen’s son, Bobby, has launched his own cooking show on the Cooking Channel, “Not My Mama’s Meals,” which offers healthy takes on Deen’s classics.
