A small Southern CA community mourn the lost of lives after unexpected shooting
Scott Dekraai is being accused of killing eight people in a shooting rampage at a hair salon.
Dekraai, whose ex-wife worked at the salon, was in the midst of a rough custody battle over the couple’s 7-year-old son.
Michelle Fournier Dekraai claimed in court papers, dated back to May that Dekraai was mentally unstable and had threatened to kill himself or someone else on other occasions. Several people however are shocked at Dekraai’s actions and describe him as a loving father.
Dekraai came to the salon on Wednesday afternoon and began wildly shooting. The police have yet to release information on the victims, so it is unclear if his ex-wife is among the eight killed. One victim remains in critical condition.
Dekraai might have been motivated after a decision in custody court, which he and his ex-wife attended the day before. Dekraai was seeking full custody, but a court-ordered review decided against the idea. His wife claims that Dekraai was physically abusive.
Police arrested Dekraai, a half a mile away from the crime scene and it is reported that he did not struggle and cooperated while being taken into custody.
Sgt. Steve Bowles of Seal Beach Police said, “Seal Beach is a “small” and “fairly intimate” coastal town where “we have multiple years with zero homicides, so this obviously is an unusual and tragic circumstance.”
