In honor of the 45th anniversary of Summerfest, MWF host a ticket giveaway not knowing that their website wouldn’t be able to hold the traffic.
Milwaukee’s annual Summerfest is a popular event during the summer. To celebrate the 45th anniversary, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. thought it would be a good idea to have a large ticket giveway starting at noon Wednesday.
What they were not prepared for was the mass amount of traffic to their website.
The offer: Win one of 45,000 free Summerfest General Admission Opening Day tickets for 45 hours. MWF figured that either the 45,000 tickets would sell out or the 45 hours would pass by.
Most people received a white screen saying “the service is unavailable.”
Those who did manage to get a ticket, only receive one General Admission Opening Day ticket for Wednesday, June 27.
Confirmed Bands for this year’s Summerfest include: Lady Antebellum, Daris Rucker, Thompson Square, Neil Diamond and Zac Brown Band.
